Collection: REV2 Controller by bootmod3

REV2 Controller · FlexRay™ + DirectPWM

More inputs. More outputs. Same factory DME.

REV2 is a motorsport controller that connects port injection, boost control, nitrous, methanol and line lock to your car's own DME. It talks to the DME over FlexRay™, the same kind of network BMW already uses between its control units. It is not a piggyback and not a second ECU. Your factory computer simply gains the ability to run the hardware you add.

Why add a REV2?

Port injection

Run sequential port fuel injection for up to 8 high-impedance injectors alongside your direct injection setup, with timing controlled by the DME.

Pneumatic boost control

Drive a pneumatic boost solenoid (MAC valve) for fast, repeatable boost control.

Nitrous and methanol / water

Control a nitrous solenoid and a methanol / water pump and solenoid. The nitrous window setup gives your tuner a lot of room to work.

Extra sensors and safeties

Bring fuel pressure, coolant pressure, exhaust temperature and more into the DME, so your tuner can build protections around them.

The DME decides. REV2 executes.

CustomROM V2 on the factory DME runs fueling, boost and the rest of the strategy. REV2 carries the sensor signals to the DME, then schedules the port injectors and drives the added outputs on the DME's command. It also reports its own status and injector faults back, so the DME can apply the safeties you configure. REV2 holds no tuning data. You tune everything in the bootmod3 Map Editor, then install the REV2 and forget about it.

What is FlexRay™?

FlexRay™ is a high-speed communication protocol used in vehicles and aircraft. It is designed to be reliable, fault-tolerant and efficient, and it is used in safety-critical systems such as driver assistance, power train, body control and battery management. Over the past decade many manufacturers have moved away from CANBUS for in-vehicle control, and REV2 follows that trend. CustomROM V2 and REV2 use FlexRay's static segment, which guarantees message delivery for output control.

DirectPWM

For the most time-critical outputs, CustomROM V2 repurposes an existing DME pin and sends a PWM signal straight through the factory harness to a REV2 input. REV2 repeats that signal on one of its outputs, with no network protocol overhead. Sequential port injection and the boost control solenoid can use DirectPWM. Your tuner switches it on in the Map Configuration screen and stores it on the DME.

When something goes wrong, the DME reacts

Every power-adder output you enable needs failsafes behind it. CustomROM V2 gives each fault it detects its own custom trouble code, and each code can trigger any of 19 safety responses, from stopping a boost or nitrous solenoid to cutting individual injectors and ignition coils for a full power cut.

Worked example

A00101 Port injector fault, cylinder 1

One injector stops flowing. Here is what the DME does in the same instant:

  • Nitrous solenoid: cut
  • Factory wastegate: cut
  • REV2 wastegate duty: cut
  • Ignition coil, cylinder 1: cut

At the same moment, load and torque targets are overridden so the DME closes the throttle. Cylinder 1 stops making power the instant it stops getting fuel.

Safety checks include

  • Overboost
  • Turbine overspeed
  • Coolant pressure
  • Cam sync
  • Port injector faults, per cylinder
  • Ignition coil faults, per cylinder
  • REV2 board faults
  • Missing injector signal from the DME
  • Port injector duty cycle limit
  • Knock, per cylinder, based on ignition correction
  • Fuel pressure differential
  • FlexRay message loss and timeouts
  • Direct injector faults, per cylinder
  • Flex fuel sensor faults
  • Port injection system faults
  • REV2-to-DME injector duty feedback delay

In the bootmod3 Map Editor, look under CustomROM → DTC Codes for the full list of configurable fault codes and responses.

Built for the engine bay

Automotive-grade wiring, Raychem sleeving, Deutsch DTM connectors and a 39-pin IP67 motorsport main connector, feeding an IP66 sealed enclosure. It is a plug-and-play loom, not a box of pigtails.

  • REV2 controller: IP66 sealed enclosure with mounting bracket and 39-pin IP67 motorsport main connector.
  • Mil-spec race harness: automotive-grade wiring, Raychem sleeving and labeled Deutsch DTM connectors for every input and output.
  • 7 bar MAP sensor and bridge harness: plugs into the factory TMAP connector. The factory 2.5 bar sensor stays in place and keeps reading intake air temperature.
  • Flex fuel sensor sub-harness: wiring for an ethanol sensor. The sensor is available separately.
  • Pressure sensor sub-harness: wiring for a fuel pressure sensor. The sensor is an optional add-on.

Every connector is labeled

The tag molded into each connector is the same tag used in the documentation and in the Map Editor.

Inputs: LRHSTSE85FPCPMFMLNOSP
Outputs: LNLKLPFPMPMSEBCSNOS

Outputs drawing more than 2 A run through an automotive relay. Anything pulsed, such as a brushless fuel pump or progressive methanol, runs through a solid-state one.

Recommended add-ons

  • 150 psi (10 bar) pressure sensor for fuel pressure on your port injection feed line
  • Port injectors from reputable brands such as Injector Dynamics, or similar, that publish flow and latency data
  • A coolant pressure sensor kit if you are pushing very high boost
  • A flex fuel kit if you plan to run ethanol (E85): the High-Flow kit, or the more economical kit with PR 360 fittings

Before you order

  • Your DME must be running bootmod3 CustomROM V2.
  • Your DME must be fully programmable: cloned, or ECU unlocked specifically for CustomROM V2. If your DME has already been unlocked, it may need to be re-sent to load CustomROM V2. See our ECU unlock + bootmod3 bundle or contact us with your vehicle details.
  • Currently supported: all S58 engine vehicles and all GEN2 B58 engine vehicles.
